Synod 2018

Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment

In February 2017, Pope Francis announced that topic for the Synod of Bishops for the XV Ordinary General Assembly will be "Young people, the Faith and Vocational Discernment". He says: " the Church has decided to examine herself on how she can lead young people to recognize and accept the call to the fullness of life and love, and to ask young people to help her in identifying the most effective ways to announce the Good News today."

What is a Synod?

It is an institution that derives from the Second Vatican Council, which brings together bishops from around the world to reflect together on a specific issue. This gathering ends with the adoption of a report which the Pope can take up the conclusions and publish them in a “Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation”. (Source : EWTN)

Frequently ask questions

Will it really be helpful? Will young people really be listened to?
YES, of course! You will be heard if you take the time to participate. You are invited to express yourself freely, guided by the questions. After the synod, the conclusions gathered will be compiile in the apostolic exhortation and shared with all parishes across the world.

Who will attend the synod in 2018?
Young people, youth ministers, religious and lay people will participate mainly ahead of the Synodal Assembly in October 2018. Following that, the bishops will gather in Rome with the Pope.

Why so many questionnaires?
This is to reach out to the most people possible. Especially young people.
The Standard and Basic Synod Questionnaires are based on the questions found in the Preparatory Document. Each diocese in Canada is responsible to gather information and submit a report to the CCCB.
The response from the Vatican Youth Synod Questionnaire is sent directly to Rome and they will synthesize the results.

For whom each questionnaire is addressed?
The Standard and Basic Synod Questionnaire are directed towards groups, organizations, Youth Ministers, parishes, young people, Priest. Really it's for anyone.
The Vatican Youth Synod Questionnaire is for young people between the ages 16 to 29.

Until when can we complete the questionnaires?
For the Standard and Basic Synod Questionnaire, the synthesis must be completed for October 2017. Therefore, it's recommended that all answers be submitted by September 15, 2017.

Who will write the synthesis for the Archdiocese of Saint Boniface?
