Organizational Structure of the Archdiocese

Mission of the Archdiocese of Saint Boniface: We are the people of God, the Body of Christ, and the Temple of the Holy Spirit of the Archdiocese of Saint Boniface.  We live and share the threefold mission of Christ, the Priest, the Prophet, and the Shepherd-King. This is our committment to live and celebrate our call to holiness, to evangelize, and to build a community in God's image, grounded in love, justice, peace and reconciliation. 

A Brief description of various Diocesan Councils

COLLEGE OF CONSULTORS

A group of six priests with whom the Archbishop consults on matters which are indicated by Church Law and other matters determined by the Archbishop.  This group can meet monthly or as the need arises.

DIOCESAN COUNCIL OF PRIESTS (PRESBYTERAL COUNCIL)

A group of fourteen priests who represent the priests of the Archdiocese.  They act as the Archbishop’s senate.  This council’s role is to assist the Archbishop, in accordance with Church law, in the governance of the Archdiocese, so that the pastoral welfare of the people of God entrusted to the Archbishop’s pastoral care may be most effectively promoted.  This Council fulfills its function by encouraging unity among the priests in the Archdiocese and by providing helpful advice and information to the Archbishop when requested to do so by the Archbishop or when required to do so by the law.  It provides back to the priests the discussions and information gleaned at the meetings.  Presently, this Council meets bi-monthly but not during the summer.

DIOCESAN PASTORAL COUNCIL

Among the consultative bodies recommended by Vatican II to assist the Archbishop in his role as pastor is the Diocesan Pastoral Council.  This Council’s role is purely consultative, and its attention is directed towards any matters concerning pastoral works in the Archdiocese.  After studying these under the authority of the Archbishop, the Council may propose practical conclusions.  The diocesan pastoral council is an expression of the multi-faceted life of a particular Church.  Its membership is to be drawn from all categories of Christ’s faithful who are in full communion with the catholic Church.  Out of its richness and diversity, truly valuable advice can be given to the Archbishop, and it becomes one more avenue for communication between the Archbishop and the Archdiocese as a whole. This Council meets twice yearly.

DIOCESAN ADMINISTRATION COUNCIL

This Council is composed of six individuals whose various leadership roles assist the Archbishop in his leadership of the Archdiocese.  This group meets monthly and in discussion with the Archbishop discerns the ways and means of implementing various decisions taken by the Archbishop after his consultations with the Council of Priests and the Diocesan Pastoral Council.

DIOCESAN FINANCE COUNCIL

This Council of six persons has the task of assisting the Archbishop with financial matters pertaining to the Archdiocese.  The Archbishop consults with this groups on questions requiring advice of a financial nature.  This consultation assists him in the financial administration of the Archdiocese.
