Liturgy

: Music Resources :

While music can enhance and enliven our liturgies, it can also be a challenge for those in the music ministry who must work to select, prepare, and share the music for each liturgy. Seasons change, choirs and talents differ, and instruments vary. There is help, not just experience that you can turn to. The following resources may be known to you, or they may be new to you. They reflect largely North American, English music material and the web site material listed is routinely updated. A variety of hymnals are referred to, hopefully hitting on one or more that are used in your parish.

Let us raise our voices in a song of praise to the Lord!

RESOURCES

Heather Reid, Preparing Music for Celebration in the Preparing for Liturgy Series published by Novalis (St Paul University, Ottawa). A simple short (47 pages) overview of preparing music for under $10.

Prairie Messenger: The Prairie Messenger provides direction for music selection for various seasons (gives this section several times each year). The focus is on the Catholic Book of Worship hymnal that the Canadian Bishops and liturgical office publish. Some of the selections however, can be found in other hymnals.
