: Nathanael - Overview :
What is Nathanael?
An adult formation process empowering the candidate to a deeper response to his/her baptismal call within the mission of the Church.
From Where do we get the Name Nathanael?
The name Nathanael comes from John 1, 35-51. Nathanael questioned Jesus about His way of life, and where He lived. He said to him, "Come, follow me." Today's Christians are also called to minister in their daily lives in the same way.
Mandate and Goals
Nathanael was mandated by the Archbishops of St. Boniface and Winnipeg in order to respond to the need for adult faith education and to foster a more authentic response to the call given by God at baptism.
Vision
It is the intent of Nathanael to promote the Vatican II vision of the Church, and especially Her wish for the involvement of all the baptized in full and active living of the Paschal Mystery of Christ. All Christians are called to minister and to transform the world by their willingness to undergo conversion and metanoia, taking on the mind and heart of Christ.
Methods of Formation
In the Nathanael formation process, this transformation is accomplished through prayer, the study of Sacred Scripture, Theology and Liturgy. It is furthermore fostered by the encouragement of a spiritual life, human growth, and training in pastoral arts.
Nathanael is a learning process that recognizes each person as the primary agent of his/her formation. It ensures the integration of each part of the formation process and encourages interaction so that everyone may be enriched by all. Nathanael encourages community and collaboration and it creates an environment where growth is possible in the spiritual, emotional and intellectual areas of a person’s life.
In the Nathanael formation, participants are invited to grow in self knowledge, in confidence and openness, in the ability and willingness to take personal risk, in the spirit of adventure, confident of the presence and action of the Holy Spirit throughout the journey.
In this formation process, and in the discernment of individual charisms, we emphasize the importance of service to the marginalized. We are committed to uphold the request for social justice which is eloquently described in the Documents of Vatican II.
