: Mandate :
The Office of Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Affairs of the Archdiocese of Saint Boniface exists to promote the goals of the Catholic Church in its pursuit of visible unity. Established in 2003, it works to foster understanding, respect, and co-operation among Christians as well as peoples of other beliefs and faith convictions. It seeks to be of service to and minister collaboratively with the other Catholic Churches in Winnipeg and Manitoba.
The biblical vision "that they may all be one" (Jn 17.21) underlying this mandate and shaping ecumenical ministry has been received and expanded by the 1993 "Directory for the Application and Principles and Norms on Ecumenism" and is confirmed in the 1995 Encyclical "Ut Unum Sint". Interfaith ministry is done under the guidelines offered by the Vatican 1991 statement "Dialogue and Proclamation" and the Declaration "Dominus Iesus" of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 2000.
The Office of Ecumenism and Inter-Religious Affairs represents the Archbishop of St. Boniface in ecumenical and inter-faith events in the city, regionally, nationally and internationally.
